Layover Tours To Athens or Sounion

1st Suggestion: Athens Layover

  Your private tour will begin at the Acropolis Hill, home to world renowned sites and monuments of the Golden Age of Athens such as the Propylea, the Erechtheion (statues of the Caryatids who were maidens dedicated to the goddess Athena and the god Poseidon), the Temple of Athena Nike and the Parthenon, the most perfect Doric Temple ever built, where you will have a fantastic view of the Odeon of Herodes Atticus, the Theater of Dionysus and the Areopagus (Mars Hill).From there we will drive to the Temple of Olympian Zeus which from start to finish (with intervals) took 638 years to complete and Hadrian’s Arch. Moving on we will visit the ancient Panathenaic Stadium, home of the first modern Olympics held in 1896, although interestingly enough Olympic Games were also held there in 1870 and 1875.  As we watch the impressive Evzones (Presidential Guard) perform their duties you will have the opportunity to see the beautiful Presidential Palace as well as the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, the House of Parliament and Constitution Square.As we drive to Lycabettus Hill to view Athens from a different angle we will pass by the National Library of Greece, Athens University and Academy. A tour of Athens would not be complete without visiting Ermou Street, one of the world’s top shopping avenues as well as Plaka (the old town) and Monastiraki (flea market) where you will enjoy traditional food and drink with as well as some shopping should you choose to do so.

2nd Suggestion: Sounion Layover

  Panoramic tour of the Athens Coast on the way to Cape Sounion visiting the temple of Poseidon. Depart from Athens to a wonderful drive along the scenic coastal road which affords a splendid view of the Saronic Gulf, passing through some of Athens most beautiful suburbs (P. Faliron, Glyfada, Vouliagmeni, Varkiza) to Cape Sounion where you will visit the 5th century B.C Temple of Poseidon with one of the most breathtaking panoramic views in the world (on a clear day you can see at least seven islands). The precipice is a sheer 197 foot drop to the sea!
